Les McRae, 90, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 1, 2015, in Cass County Medical Care Facility.
He was born April 21, 1925, in Cheboygan, Michigan, to Robert and Tena (Anderson) McRae. He married Norma Jean Henker Aug. 30, 1969, in Livonia, Michigan. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one step son, David Goldy.
Les was proud of being an expert dry wall finisher. He was a passionate and competitive golfer as well as bowler. In his later years he became known and appreciated as “The Stone Man.” His unique and inspirational stones have blessed many people across the country as well as here at home.
Les will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of forty six years, Norma Jean (Henker) McRae of Cassopolis; one step son, Tim (wife, Jean) Goldy of Granger, Indiana; two daughters, Debi Miller and Teri (husband, Frank) Wakefield, both of Sarasota, Florida; one son, Jim McRae of Coruuna, Michigan; twelve grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and daughter in law Karen Goldy of Fairhope, Alabama.
Family and friends will gather Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, with the Reverends Chuck Van Lente and Benjamin David Hutchison, officiating. The service will conclude with full Military Honors being rendered by active members of the Marine Corps and the Honor Guard of the Lt. William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 in Cassopolis. Mr. McRae’s remains will be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
