Tharon Shane Combs, 45, of Buchanan, Michigan died with his family gathered around him at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1969, in Niles, Michigan to Lawrence Henry and Linda Kay (Murphy) Combs, Sr. He was graduated from Buchanan High School, and has lived in this area all of his life. He served in the United States Army, and has been employed for many years at the NTN Driveshaft plant in Columbus, Indiana.

Shane was a member and 2010 Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #978 in Niles. He enjoyed fishing and playing the guitar. He also enjoyed playing games such as on-line golf and “Call of Duty,” and gathering with friends face-to-face for darts and pool.

On Aug. 5, 2015, he married his long-time friend and companion, the former Amy Lynn (Shumaker) Johnson.

Surviving family includes his wife, Amy Combs and his children, Tharon Dalton Combs of Dowagiac, Michigan, Thomas Tracy Lane, Stephanie Mosier of Dowagiac, April Carns, Samuel Allen Melton of South Bend, Indiana, and Eric Jacob Edward Johnson of Franklin, Indiana; grandchildren Ariana Marie, Bentley, Phoenix Reneé, George, Peyton, Evan, and Nathaniel; Shane’s mother, Linda Kay (Russell Everett) Rogers of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Shane’s siblings, Lavonda (Larry) Ryan of Lake Placid, Florida, Valarie Dahl of Lake Placid, Lawrence H. (Michelle Haff) Combs, Jr. of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Teri Lynn Kelley of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Combs, Sr., and by a daughter, Sabrina Reneé.

The memorial service for Shane Combs will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Chaplain Gillian Webster of Memorial Hospital Spiritual Services officiating. The service will conclude outside for Full Military Honors by the United States Honor Guard and American Legion Post #51 of Buchanan.
