Amelia B. Castle, 93, of Murfreesboro, Arkansas, formerly of Dowagiac, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Murfreesboro Nursing Center.
A memorial service will begin at noon on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center St., Dowagiac with Reverend Carlton Kelley officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. In accordance with Amelia’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
She will be buried next to her husband Victor at Harwick Cemetery in Mattawan, Michigan at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 306 Courtland St., Dowagiac. Those wishing to leave a memory or condolence of Amelia online may do so at www.clarkch.com.
Amelia was born February 20, 1922 in Paw Paw, Michigan to John C. and Mary B. (Lang) Birdsall. She married Victor Castle Sr. on June 12, 1940, in Paw Paw. Amelia worked as a book keeper for Dohm Well Drilling for several years. Her true passion was researching genealogy. Amelia was very instrumental in cataloging the Decatur Michigan Public Library. She was a lifetime member of the local Order of the Eastern Star. Amelia lived most of her life in Dowagiac and in 2007 she moved to Arkansas to be with her son. Amelia loved everyone she met and she taught her family how to live by being an example. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Amelia is survived by her children; Carol (Nils Andersen) Hartman, Ruth Hill, Patty Wolf and Mark (Brenda) Castle, 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one sister Mary Louise Zeller. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons Victor Jr. and George Castle, a daughter Alice Marie Castle, two brothers Ralph and John Birdsall and a sister Joan Traxler.
