Dowagiac man breaks into Howard Township home, steals hygiene products

A 32-year-old Dowagiac man is in custody after breaking into a Howard Township woman’s home, according to Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood.
According to a release from the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to a Howard Township residence at 4:02 a.m. Sunday and learned that a male acquaintance of the victim had climbed through the bath window and made his way to her bedroom.
The victim said she awoke to the man standing in her room and kicked him. The suspect, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, then fled from the home. The release said that while fleeing the residence, the suspect stole some hygiene products that belonged to the victim.
Deputies were able to locate the suspect, who was sleeping a short distance away from the incident location, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Officers also found the hygiene products the suspect stole from the victim’s home.
The suspect was arrested and is being held pending arraignment.
The Michigan State Police assisted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and the incident remains under investigation.
