NILES, Mich. — Fernwood has planned a variety of events for the end of June.

Rick Tuttle’s The Trouble with Paradise: Nature in America

Friday, June 1 through Sunday, July 26

A wonder cabinet/assemblage of bookbinding art, paintings, drawings, cabinetry, and assemblage (art referencing Emerson, Thoreau, Audubon, John Muir, Ansel Adams, Rachel Carson, and Joseph Cornell) by Rick Tuttle, Doctor Drip, and R. Tutt, with guest appearances by B. Prest.

 

In the Clark Gallery — Vasilisa Kiselevich: Butterflies & Blooms

June 11 through July 26

Kiselevich shares the vibrant beauty of these fragile short-lived works of art with Fernwood’s visitors through her photography.

 

Garden volunteer opportunities

Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday evenings at 5 p.m.

Everyone is invited to have fun and make new friends while helping Fernwood maintain its garden collections. On Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m., volunteers can join Fernwood’s horticulture staff for Coffee and Grounds with a cup of coffee on the café decks, followed by a few hours of light garden work.

On Wednesday evenings at 5 p.m., guests can join the Wine and Weed Wednesday volunteers for an hour or so of light work, followed by time to enjoy good company and a local vintage on the Café decks.

Mosaic birdbath workshop

Saturday, June 27,

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will design a one-of-a-kind mosaic birdbath in this workshop with mosaic artist, Martha Branson-Banks.

A materials list is provided upon registration with other supplies included in the class fee. Guests can have lunch in the café or bring their own. Those interested must register by June 24. $45 (Members $36)

 

Tallgrass prairie walk

Saturday, June 27,

1 to 2:30 p.m.

New flowers are blooming in the prairie every week. Guests are asked to bring a water bottle and dress for the weather to enjoy a guided walk through Fernwood’s prairie reconstruction, as they learn about the ecology and natural history of this unique community. $10 (Members $8)

 

Family summer free day

Tuesday, June 16

Everyone will enjoy free admission to Fernwood on three special Family Summer Free Days. Admission includes Fernwood’s popular Railway Garden, Nature Adventure Garden, Sculpture Fernwood, Take Five stick sculpture, and much more.
