Green eliminated at Division III nationals

HERSHEY, Pennsylvania —  Trine’s Mack Green and Brandon Preston competed in the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships, held Friday at the Giant Center.

Preston (Logansport, Indiana) was eliminated from the championships with a pair of losses in the morning session. The senior was defeated by New York University’s Nathan Pike by 11-4 decision in the first match of the day. Jacob Spearman of Washington and Jefferson got the best of Preston by 12-2 major decision in wrestlebacks.

Preston concludes the season with a 20-9 overall mark. The senior wraps up his collegiate wrestling career having earned three appearances in the national meet, including trips at two different weight classes.

Green (Buchanan) received a win by forfeit in his first match of the day to advance to the evening session. In his first contested match of the day, the senior was defeated by Oneonta State’s James Bethel by 9-2 decision. With the loss, Green dropped into the wrestlebacks bracket.

Green was then eliminated by Zachery Roseberry of Delaware Valley in the final match by 3-2 decision. A key takedown in the first period proved to be the big difference in the match. Green concludes his career with a 34-5 senior campaign, having earned All-America honors for placing fifth in the nation in 2014.

The NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships conclude today.
