Aug. 4, 1927—Sept. 27, 2014

Barbara Joan Schmidt, 87, of Niles, Michigan passed away early in the morning of Sept. 27, 2014 at her home.

She was the daughter of Clarence George Robinson and Mary (Meme) Rachel (Ferguson).

She was born Aug. 4, 1927 on the family’s farm in Brookston, Indiana.

She graduated from Brookston High School in 1945 and was a clerk for the White County Treasurer in Monticello, Indiana.

Joan married Herbert William Schmidt on Sept. 17, 1950 on the Brookston farm, he survives.

She enjoyed raising their seven children and giving her hooked rugs to family and friends, with some ending up in countries around the world.

They recently celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary and renewed their vows.

Joan is survived by sisters, Ann (Gene) Cox and June (Don) Anderson; brother, Kean (Carolyn); sister-in-law Jo (Leroy) Moore; sons, Alan (Ruth), Leroy (Laura), and Bruce (Beverly); daughters, Susan (George) Lovett and Robin (John) Adams; and daughter-in-law Debbie Schmidt. Grandchildren; Henry, Susanne, Samantha, Emma, Amanda, Jamie, Eric, William, Alexander, Roger Jr., and Sarah; and great granddaughter, Olivia.

Joan was preceded in death by brothers, Gwin and Bob; sister, Frances; and sons, Roger and Tracy.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor David Stauffer officiating.

Interment will follow at Brookston IOOF Cemetery in Brookston.
