John L. Krager, 77, of Vandalia, died peacefully, Monday, July 28, 2014, in his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born Jan. 2, 1937, in Cass County, Michigan to Michael and Edith (Sibley) Krager. He married Sandra Neale Squires Jan. 28, 1955, in Cassopolis, Michigan. She survives. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Krager and Bruce Krager; and three sisters, Alice Krager, Beverly Krager, and Nancy Kelley.

John’s big interest was his grandkids and his great grandkids. He was quite the jokester. He loved Tuesday night cards with his wife and sisters and Saturday night dancing with his wife.

John’s great passions were farming and his 1949 Moline tractor. He was passionate for his perfection in mowing. He drove the Fair Cruisers at the Cass County Fair.

John will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Sandy (Squires) Krager of Vandalia; one daughter, Daphne Krager of Vandalia; one son, Jon (Kay) Krager of Cassopolis; two grandchildren, Josh (Jera) Krager of Vandalia, Elizabeth Krager of Cassopolis; four great grandchildren, Noah Krager, Grace Krager, Faith Krager, Micah Krager; six sisters, Ruby Moore of Dowagiac, Loretta (Ken) Koch of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Mabel Hartman of Dowagiac, Barbara Morgan of Dowagiac, Rose (Bob) Eggleston of Marcellus, Linda (Ed) Palmer of Dowagiac; one brother, Michael (Sally) Krager, Jr., of Dowagiac; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 4 until 8 p.m. in Penn Friends Church, 19107 Quaker Street, Cassopolis. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the church with the Reverend Bill Bruneau officiating. Mr. Krager will be laid to rest in South Wayne Cemetery, Dowagiac.
