Donna Ruth Stewart, 81, of Niles, died at 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Arlington Heights, Illinois following a brief illness.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1932, in Silver Creek Township, in Cass County, Mich. to Charles W. and Ruth E. (Knee) Dohm and was raised on the family farm.

Donna graduated from Dowagiac High School and spent her entire life in the southwest Michigan area.

Donna attended the Bertrand Bible Church in Niles. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening where she grew beautiful flowers and numerous vegetables for canning and freezing.

She also loved reading, sewing, crafts, old hymns and classical music, but her greatest joy was her family: her husband, children and especially her grandchildren.

On Feb. 26, 1956, at Daily Bible Church, Daily, Michigan she married Robert W. Stewart and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Stewart and by their daughters, Kathleen R. (Jeff) Clegg of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Marcia E. (Keith) Cross of Daggett, Michigan; grandchildren Jessica E. Cross and Kyleigh N. Cross; and by her sister, Myrna L. VanTuyle of Dowagiac, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Hazel (Dohm) Price, Ernest W. Dohm, Kenneth C. Dohm, Edward H. Dohm, Charles F. Dohm and Lorna F. (Dohm) Bauer.

The funeral service for Donna Stewart will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Bertrand Bible Church in Niles with Pastor Tony Slagle of the church officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, at the church.
