Mildred E. LaPorte, 62, years of Niles, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles following an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 29, 1952, in Marion, Ala. to James S. & Vernice (Carroll) Butters, Sr. On March 29, 1981, in Louisville, Miss., she married Daniel I. LaPorte. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2010.

Mildred graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Chalmette, La. in 1971. Although miles apart from her extended family, Mildred had a way of keeping the family connected.

Surviving family includes her brother, James Butters, Jr., of River Ridge, La., sister-in-law and dear friend Jenny (and husband Michael) LaPorte and beloved extended family and caregivers.

She was preceded in death by her husband and sister Emma Sue Butters.

Funeral services for Mildred E. LaPorte will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles the Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church in Niles officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
