James F. Dennis, 79, of Niles, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2013, at Cass County Medical Care Facility in the presence of his family.

Jim was born Aug. 6, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to Fred and Marie (Petite) Dennis.  His parents preceded him in death.  He was also preceded by two brothers; Donald (Bing), and Walt (Bill). He married Mary Evelyn Gempel on Jan. 18, 1957 in Angola, Ind.  She survives.

Jim served honorably in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.  He retired after 34 years from the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and motorcycles.

Jim will be greatly missed by family and friends.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (Gempel) Dennis of Niles; two sons, Scott (Stacy) Dennis of Cassopolis, Kent (Vilma) Dennis of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren; Donovan, Amy Jaye, and Abby Lynn Dennis. Jim is also survived by two sisters, Joyce (Tom) Drabeck, Karol Sue Uncapher, both of Swanton, Ohio and two brothers, Robert and Michael of Toledo, Ohio.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for a time of reflection and visitation in the Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.  Mr. Dennis will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan Michigan at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to the Cass County Medical Care Facility, 23770 Hospital Street, Cassopolis, MI 49031.
