Margaret C. Hamilton

Margaret Christine Olson Hamilton, Edwardsburg, passed from her earthly life into eternal life July 15, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicago on Nov. 2, 1926, she moved to Edwardsburg in 1937 with her parents, Carl and Amelia Olson, who preceded her in death.

Margaret is survived by her four children; Diana (Michael) Malone of Edwardsburg, Gail (Dennis)  Rossow of Lake Zurich, Ill., Laury Barella of Edwardsburg, and Gary (Lisa) Hamilton of Osceola, Ind. There are six grandchildren; Sean Malone of Ann Arbor, Jackie Barella of Elkhart, Ind., David Rossow and Kenneth Rossow both of Lake Zurich, Ill., Danielle Livous of Elkhart and Steve Martin of Goshen, Ind. and nine great-grandchildren.

On June 17, 1949, she married Dean Hamilton, who preceded her in death on June 22 of this year. Margaret worked as an executive secretary at I&M, until she and Dean started a family and she became a full-time mom. After raising her family she returned to work at the Edwardsburg Public School systems in the kitchen — a “lunch lady,” cooking and serving food to the students, who undoubtedly will not remember her for her culinary skills, but will remember her smiling face and her costumes for every holiday. She retired from the school system in 1988.

Margaret was born to Swedish immigrants, was always proud of her heritage, and passed that pride onto her children. So many happy memories of Swedish Christmas’ and Swedish smorgasbords. She loved flower gardening, crafts, crocheting, and cooking-especially baking. She was well known for her cooking and baking and many were blessed with gifts of her homemade goodies.

She was happiest when entertaining family and friends in her home and on yearly Christmas trips to Chicago with her daughters and her dear life-long friend, Ruthe Rohlfs.

Margaret was a member of the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxillary, the Edwardsburg Order of the Eastern Star, Modern Moms and the Monday Evening Club.

We love her and miss her, but are comforted by knowing she is peaceful and happy now in the arms of her Lord.
