If you haven’t seen the Broadway smash hit musical, “Wicked,” yet, there’s no better time than now to go out a buy a ticket.

The Tony Award-winning production will be in Kalamazoo this weekend and in South Bend, Ind., the following week.

“Wicked, the Untold Story of the Witches of Oz” is the Broadway hit musical based on the story by Gregory Maguire, set in the land of Oz created by Frank L. Baum in his beloved children’s series.

Before Dorothy, a little girl from Kansas, and her little dog landed in Oz, two young rivals became unlikely best friends at the prestigious Shiz University. Galinda, of the North, had the world in her pocket. She was beautiful, popular, blonde and ambitious. Elphaba was the daughter of the governor of Munchkin Land whose sole duty was to care for her invalid sister. She also had the unfortunate condition of being completely emerald green. Wicked is the story of how they came to be known as Glinda the Good and The Wicked Witch of the West.

“Wicked” presents a story parallel to the timeless The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, showing there is more than one side to every story.

This tale, billed as a social, ethical, and political commentary on the true nature of what is good and evil, centers on the smart and fiery Elphaba and how she became the much-reviled Wicked Witch of the West. This powerful and provocative look at a well-loved classic will change the way audiences will appreciate the tale of Dorothy and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

“Wicked” will be performed at the Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo from April 24 to May 5.

Catch the “Wicked” performances at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend from May 8 through May 19. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.

The weekend show times are at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. every Saturday and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. every Sunday. Tickets are still available, but could sell out as the performance gets closer.
