Dorothy Aline Carter, 89, of Decatur and formerly of Niles, died Jan. 4 at Memorial Hospital South Bend.

She was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Buchanan, to the late Wm. Isaac and Bertha Walls Wolford.

On April 11, 1944, in Picket, Ark., she married Odra Otis Carter who preceded her in death on April 12, 2005.

She is survived by four daughters, Audrey A. Anglin, of Niles, Delores and the late John Bair, of South Bend, Dianne (Robert) Spansail, of Decatur, Bernice (Kenneth) Haroldson, of Cassopolis; a daughter, Brenda (Troy) Lewis, who preceded her in death; four sons, Calvin Carter, of Buchanan, Howard (Janice) Carter, of Niles, Dennis (Linda) Carter, of Niles, Patrick (Mary) Carter, of Cassopolis; two sisters, Claudine Foulk, of Grayling, Louise DeWalt, of Palm Bay, Fla.; a sister, Alice Ward, who preceded her in death; and one brother, William Wolford, of Buchanan.

Three brothers preceded her in death, Charles Wolford, Lawrence Wolford and Victor Wolford.

Other survivors include 29 grandchildren, 67 great- grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at Bethel Tabernacle, 71378 Ironwood in Niles.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, also at the church.

Pastor Matthew Bair will officiate the burial, which will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery Buchanan.

The family is being served by Swem Chapel of Buchanan.
