Ora J. Lucas, 64, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles.

She was born on May 21, 1948 in Cassopolis, Mich., to Mae Belle (Cosey) Hill.

On Aug. 16, 1980 Ora married Forrest Edward Lucas at a ceremony in Niles, Mich.

Ora worked for several years at Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac and as a line inspector for Rudy Manufacturing (Sunstrand). There after she took on the ultimate job of raising her children, which was her greatest joy. She had a heart for helping others. A loving and devoted woman of faith, Ora always had time to listen and be available for anyone at any time. She was more than just a mother to her children but also to her community. She was also known for her delicious baking, including cakes.

She is preceded in death by her husband Forrest in 1998, a great-grandson Brendon Cosey and a brother Anthony Scott Hill.

Ora is survived by her children; Tina Cosey, Tonya Cosey, Sheldon Cosey, Ronda (James) Lucas-Sullivan and Danielle Lucas all of Dowagiac, Grandsons she raised Aaron Cosey and Shariele Cosey both of Dowagiac and Christopher Cosey of Marietta, Ga., and her loving step-children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, ten brothers; Ernest (Beverly) Hill of Dowagiac, John Otis Hill of Edwardsburg, Walter Hill of Dowagiac, Carl Hill of Dowagiac, Robert Hill of Berrien Springs, Marvin (Carla) Hill of Niles, Ken Hill of Dowagiac, Phillip Hill of New York, Cedrick Hill of Dowagiac and Timothy Hill of Dowagiac, very special aunts Dorothy Avance of South Bend and Agnes Bacon of Niles along with countless nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 601 Ferry St., in Niles with Pastor Bryant Bacon officiating. A time of visitation will begin one hour prior. An interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
