Ruby’s life began on March 27, 1948, in Florence, Ala., the daughter of Aaron and Virginia (Sampson) Thrasher.

She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” L. Evans Sr. on Aug. 6, 1966, in Florence, Ala.

Ruby was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church for many years. She was an avid Notre Dame sports fan, as she loved all their sports.

Ruby has an extensive rock and flower garden. One of her favorite past times was to sit on her front porch and read.

Ruby was very dedicated to her husband, Dick, as she devoted the last eight years of her life to taking care of him.

Her loving family includes her husband, Dick Evans of Niles; children, Dawn (Steve) Welsh of South Bend, Ind., Richard “Scooter” (Glenna Revis) Evans of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Steven, Kayla, Charity and Cassidy; great-granddaughter, Raeghan; and sister, Ellen (Tom) Rodewald of Elkhart, Ind.

Ruby passed away on Nov. 2, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Dowagiac, where her service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Casey Helmuth officiating.
