Donald E. Uselton, 80, of Niles, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his family Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012.

He was born on April 1, 1932, in Summitville, Tenn., to the late Dolphus and Adelaide (Freeze) Uselton.

Don attended Niles High School and joined the Air Force and served his country proudly. He was always extremely patriotic and was proud of his service. On Sept. 8, 1951, Don married Charlotte Pirtle at a ceremony in Roswell, N.M.

The couple later moved back to the area and settled in Niles to raise their family.

Don worked for more than 20 years at The Ridge Company. He also worked as a machine operator for 16 years at National-Standard until his retirement. Not being able to sit idle, Don began working more into wood crafting, where he was truly gifted and skilled. Don felt everything he accomplished needed to be done to the best of his ability, including his garden and yard work. Don was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Don is survived by his wife, Charlotte Uselton of Niles; a daughter, Catherine (Fabio) Giro of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, Don (Cherrie) Uselton of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Ron (Deb) Uselton of Granger, Ind., several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Sue (Richard) Rossow of Union; and a brother, Kenneth Uselton of Mishawaka, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters: June Wiseman, Wilma Roush, Lila Conrad and Barbara Hentsch.

A time to celebrate Don’s life will be held at Beacon Baptist Church on Monday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Don’s memory to Beacon Baptist Church 2522 S. 13th St., Niles, MI 49120.
