Lyle Edward Mead, 59, of Bond Street in Niles, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at his home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1952, in Niles. Lyle was a 1976 Niles High School graduate and was a water technician for the City of Niles, as well as for the City of Mishawaka. He had achieved rank of corporal in the Niles Salvation Army.

He was formerly married to Cindy Wogoman, who survives with children Denise (Richard) Steffens, of Casper, Wy., Erica (Kevin) Rowland, of Torrington, Wy., Lyle E. Mead Jr., of Omaha, Neb., Hollee (Aaron) Schau, of Niles, and Beth (Carlos) Walker, of Beckley, W. Va.

In 2005, Lyle married the former Irene Phillips, who survives with stepsons, Mark, Dan and Brian Phillips, all of South Bend; and his mother, Dorothy Mead, of Niles. He is survived by his four brothers, Don (Jean) Mead, of Houston, Texas, Billy Mead, Bobby (Peggy) Mead and Tommy Mead, all of Niles; sister Faith (Roger) Horton, of Niles; as well as 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his fathers, Bill Mead and Lyle Merritt.

Funeral services for Lyle Edward Mead will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at the Halbritter Funeral Home with Major William Walters of the Niles Salvation Army officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.

Donations in memory of Lyle may be made to the Salvation Army.
