The second annual Cycle-Re-Cycle Bicycle Show and Ride is a dream come true for anyone with even a passing interest in pedal bicycles.

Show organizer Mike Eliasohn said you could expect to see a wide variety of bicycles there, from classic cruisers, to freak bikes, to rat-rods and low riders.

“It’s a fun event for people who like bicycles and who like to ride bicycles,” said Eliasohn, “in the same way there are people who like cars and like driving, and others whose only interest in cars is to get some place.”

The event pedals off with a bicycle show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cycle-Re-Cycle, located off Main Street in downtown Benton Harbor behind the Citgo Station and across from Michigan Works! park.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. It costs $1 to enter the bike show and an additional $1 to participate in the bike ride. Cost is free to kids 13 and under.

Prizes will be awarded in the bike show for Best Original or Restored Bike; Best Modified or Custom Bike; and Best Daily Ride.

The ride begins at 2 p.m. and is approximately five miles in length, highlighted by a cruise through Benton Harbor’s beautiful Jean Klock Park and beach on Lake Michigan.

Cycle-Re-Cycle of Southwest Michigan, started in 2010, is a not-for-profit bicycle shop and organization. Bicycles are donated, refurbished and sold at affordable prices. Adults and children who cannot afford to buy a bicycle can earn credits and ultimately a bike by working at the shop. Proceeds from the show and ride will go to Cycle-Re-Cycle.

If you have useable bikes and/or parts that you would like to donate to Cycle-Re-Cycle, please bring them. The shop will be open regular hours that day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show will be on paved parking lot with no shade, so bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and water. Food will be available.
