Michelle G. Martin, 49, of North Liberty, Ind., passed away at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, in River Crest Specialty Hospital. She was taken home after a long battle with an illness.

Michelle was born Nov. 3, 1962, to Phillip and Kathryn (Searle) Garrison, who have preceded her in death.

She was born in Midvale, Utah, but lived in this area since she was 3.

On Feb. 20, 1981, in Roswell, N.M., Michelle married Billy G. Martin Jr. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kristin (Billy) Webster of Buchanan; Kayte (Kris) Franklin of North Liberty; son, Jason (Kati Sparks) Martin of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Billy Webster, Jr., Trisha Martin, Kyle Webster, Gabby Galbreath, Natalie Michelle Martin, Ayden Webster, Jason Alexander Martin,Kristopher Franklin, Kami Martin, Shyann Webster and Kahli Franklin; sisters, Kathy Jones of Midvale Utah, JeAnne Eskridge of Mishawaka, Rosemary Garrison of Mishawaka, Heidi Blair of Niles, Sara-Lei Fajardo of Roswell, N.M.; and brother, Phillip Scott Garrison of Springfield, Ill.

Michelle was a member of United Methodist Church, North Liberty. She was a past Girl Scout leader, a loving and caring wife and mother and grandmother.

She was a foster parent and an honorary mother to many.

Michelle would see the good in all people. Her mental strength helped her over her physical disability to overcome all obstacles that came her way. She was very active in all her children’s activities, from Girl Scout leader to finger-painting at home. Her physical limitations did not keep her from love of life and family.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend. A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
