Vandals hit a large number of vehicles and some residences on Diamond Lake and Eagle Lake in Cass County over the weekend.
Diamond Lake resident Spencer McCaslin considers himself one of the luckier ones. He only woke up to find a small dent on the back of his vehicle.
“I was just happy to find a window still on my car,” said McCaslin, who lives on Lake Street.
Others weren’t so fortunate.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police responded to more than a dozen calls of vandalism, all reportedly occurring late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Broken out car windows, dented car doors and smashed patio windows were all reported to sheriff’s deputies, who responded to 10 calls of this nature at various locations around Diamond Lake.
The Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Department responded to six cases of a similar nature that occurred around Eagle Lake during the same time frame.
McCaslin, who has lived on Diamond Lake full-time the past five years, said last weekend wasn’t the first time vandals hit Diamond Lake properties.
Someone threw a rock through his window about three weeks ago.
“We haven’t had much like this that I can remember,” he said.
