CASSOPOLIS — A Dowagiac man is headed to prison on methamphetamine-related convictions.
Shawn Imus, 42, was sentenced Friday in Cass County Circuit Court to six to 40 years in prison on the most serious offense of operating and maintaining a meth lab.
Prosecutor Victor Fitz said Imus has a less than stellar criminal history.
“For the last 25 years, he has led a life of crime,” Fitz said, referencing armed robbery, prostitution, criminal sexual conduct and weapons-related offenses.
“He needs to get clean, get out or get prison,” Fitz said. “Tragically, he has earned just that.”
Imus has attended 35 group sessions in the Cass County Jail Meth Diversion Program, for which Judge Michael Dodge commended him.
“I want a new life for myself,” Imus said, adding he has become a Christian and has aspirations of becoming a minister when he is out of prison.
