CASSOPOLIS — A Niles man who was caught driving his moped while drunk compounded his problem by being found with marijuana and Vicodin pills.

Ronald Lane, 47, was sentenced to two years of probation for the episode Friday at Cass County Circuit Court.

Lane had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 percent at the time.

Lane apologized in court and owned up to his addiction.

“I know I have an alcohol problem,” he said. “When I don’t drink, I don’t care about the other stuff (drugs).”

Judge Michael Dodge said Lane should use the probation period to focus on his alcohol problem.

“You just can’t drink,” he said.

Lane must spend 90 days on alcohol monitoring tether.
