June Belle Harmon, 91, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at her home of 30 years in Sanford, Mich.  In her final hours she was surrounded by family, friends, her parish priest and her compassionate health care team.
June was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Cassopolis to the late Harvey Bloomer and his wife, Velda (Shank) Bloomer. June was raised in South Bend, spending summers with maternal grandparents in Penn, Mich. She graduated from the Washington-Clay School in South Bend, where her studies included business classes and theatrical productions. She worked as a nurse’s aide during the early years of World War II followed by several administrative office positions.
It was at one of those jobs in Coldwater, Mich., that she met Harold “Doc” Harmon, whom she married. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Gaylord, Mich., where they raised their family and developed and enjoyed their lake property. While living in Gaylord June spent several years working as an administrative assistant in the Gaylord Public Schools.
June and Doc relocated in 1982 to Sanford, where they were active in the Midland County Sport Fishing Association and St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Surviving is her son and daughter and their spouses, Richard “Dick” and Bonnie Harmon of Auburn, Mich.; and Deborah Buschman and her husband, Dr. James of Tuxedo Park, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Joseph H. Harmon and his wife, Kristin, of Webster, N.Y.; Mary J. Harmon of Midland and Christiann V. Harmon of Auburn, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Harmon and Isabella Harmon. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Kenneth Harmon of Fowler, Mich.; one stepsister, Geri Dawson of California.
In addition to her parents and husband, June was predeceased by her stepfather, Clarence A. Dawson; her brother-in-law, H.B. Harmon; and her sister-in-law, Mildred Harmon.
A memorial funeral liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, from the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sanford. Fr. Daniel J. Fox OFM Cap will officiate with committal services to take place at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Agnes Cemetery in Sanford.
Mrs. Harmon’s family will receive friends at the Church today from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
