Three re-appointed

Dowagiac City Council Jan. 9 confirmed three re-appointments recommended by Mayor Donald Lyons and offered by Mayor Pro Tem Leon Laylin:
• Edward Booth for a term expiring December 2014 and Barb Bobik for a term expiring November 2014 on the city Planning Commission.
• Judy Lawrence for a term expiring September 2015 on the District Library Board.

‘Burger King Drive’

Council approved a 50-percent cost-sharing agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation for traffic signal maintenance at the intersection of M-51, M-62 and what the state referred to as “Burger King Drive.”
Dowagiac will pay an estimated $204 for power consumption and $300 to $600 annually to maintain the light.
Council granted approval to Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce to have the 16th annual Ice Time Festival Feb. 4.
Council finished the evening in closed session to discuss negotiations related to purchase of real property.
Council also directed City Treasurer Robin Coffey to pay $278,828.19 for bills ($164,600.89) and payroll ($114,277.30) for Dec. 21 and $303,657.07 for bills ($103,089.71) and payroll ($200,567.36) for Jan. 5.
