ALBION — Albion College, champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, placed five players on the D3football.com all-North Region team.

Senior cornerback and MIAA Defensive MVP Chris Greenwood, a Detroit native who prepped at Martin Luther King High School, was placed on the first team.

Junior defensive tackle C.J. Carroll (Warren/Fitzgerald), senior linebacker John Lesinski (Grass Lake), sophomore offensive tackle Chris Ogston (Eaton Rapids) and junior running back Clinton Orr (Buchanan) all gained third team status.

National Football League scouts observed Greenwood closely all season long and he did not disappoint with 24 tackles and two interceptions. Greenwood returned an interception 70 yards for the game-winning score against Alma.

The statistics do not speak to the impact Greenwood had on the field though, because teams were often too intimidated to throw in his direction, which is one of the main reasons he achieved first team status.

Orr, the MIAA’s Offensive MVP, clinched his second-straight league rushing title (832 yards on 132 carries in six MIAA contests) and became Albion’s all-time leading rusher during the 2011 season. Orr rushed for at least 140 yards in four league contests, including a 236-yard performance against Hope College and a 200-yard day against Trine University.

Carroll, Lesinski, and Ogston were all-MIAA first team performers. Carroll was among the Division III sack leaders with 12, Lesinski finished fourth in the MIAA in tackles and he collected a pair of interceptions, and Ogston did not allow a sack in his first year playing offensive tackle after moving from the defensive line at the beginning of fall camp.
