James L. Corbidge, 71, passed away Feb. 26, 2011, with his family by his side.

Born to Charles and Evelyn Corbidge in Illinois, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1958, he moved to Cassopolis in 1965 and married Shirley Freestone on June 4, 1966.

James loved to socialize with friends and family.

He drove a city bus in Chicago for two years before moving to Cassopolis, where he worked for Corbidge Automotive for 29 years.

The last eight of those years he participated in many truck rodeos, where he won numerous first-place trophies.

After moving to Vancouver, Wash., in 1994, he fulfilled the dream of driving a big rig.

He drove alongside his son James at John H. Kooy Trucking until retiring in September 2005.

James leaves: his wife of 44 years, Shirley; four children, Liz Sanders (Brian) of Amboy, Wash., James Corbidge II (Donnell) of Vancouver, Wash., Bonnie VanDenBorre (Brian) of Vancouver, Wash., and Robert (Marianne) of Cassopolis; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Corbidge (Pat) of Dowagiac.

Cremation has taken place. His family is planning a celebration of life in Michigan at a later date.
