NILES — Minnie Hance, 84, of Berrien Springs, passed away at her home on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, with her family by her side.

Minnie was born on Jan. 16, 1927, to the late Almond McNeely and Polly Josephine (Gipson) Smith.

She was one of six children growing up in the Smith household.
On April 25, 1945, Minnie wed the love of her life, Dennis Hance, at a ceremony in Columbus, Kan. Together they had seven wonderful children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dennis, twin sister Winnie Peoples, brother James “Bud” Smith, granddaughter Erica McMahill and great-grandson Colgan Lohman.

Minnie is survived by: her children, Dennis “Wayne” (Sharon) Hance of St. Joseph, Carolyn (Earl) Haygood of Berrien Springs, Michael (Marie) Hance of Council Bluffs, Iowa, James (Teresa) Hance of Niles, Jeff (Kaye) Hance of Berrien Springs, Missy (Gary) Leiting of Dowagiac and Andrea Zech of Berrien Springs; grandchildren, Steve (Lisa) Haygood, Dennis (Jodi) Haygood, Douglas (Emma) Haygood, Chris (Chad) Lohman, Kelly (Pat) Baalmann, Melissa (James) Shirley, Michelle Cagle, Melissa (Dave) Place, Jennifer (Armando) Velaquez, James “J.L.” Hance Jr., Sam Hance, Rachael Hance, Cameron McMahill, Michael Zech, Tyler Herthoge and L.T. Gustafson; great-grandchildren, Erica Haygood, Brittney Haygood, Nathan Haygood, Caleb Haygood, Riley Haygood, Nolan Haygood, Elizabeth Haygood, Jacob Haygood, Brandon Haygood, Cooper Lohman, Campbell Lohman, Bailey Baalmann, Rylan Baalmann, Paige Shirley, Drew Shirley, Bryce Shirley, Braiden Shirley, Gavin Cagle, Ashton Cagle, Jadyn Cagle, Allison Voit, Andrew Voit, Ashlyn Voit, Christain Velaquez, Nolbia Velaquez, Janeice Velaquez, Zackary Hance and Ella McMahill; and siblings, Claude (Judy) Smith of Arkansas, Clyde (Marilyn) Smith of Missouri and JoAnn (Leland) Baker of Missouri.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Full Gospel Assembly, 4640 E. Snow Road, Berrien Springs, from 6 to 8 p.m. with funeral services to honor Minnie’s life the next day at 11 a.m. Rev. Starley Baker will be officiating.

Minnie will be laid to rest at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens next to her husband.
Memorial donations may be made in Minnie’s name to Full Gospel Assembly or Hospice at Home.
