Salvatore F. DiCerto, 70, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 in Punta Gorda following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 1, 1941 in Niles to Valentine and Angeline (Frucci) DiCerto, and graduated from Niles High School in 1958. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, serving in the U.S. Air Force for nine years.

He was employed by UNISYS for 34 years, retired as vice president of custom engineering in 2003. He lived in Punta Gorda during his retirement.

“Sam” was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Punta Gorda, and was active in his Men’s Fellowship, which prepared monthly meals for the local homeless shelter. He also enjoyed fishing, and gathered with a group of friends every August at the Lake of the Woods in Minnesota for 26 years.

Surviving family includes his daughters, Anna C. (Frank Miller) DiCerto of Odessa, Texas and Moonyean C. (Frank) LeFevre of Freeport, Ill.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; Sam’s sisters and brother, Gaetana (James) Lenox of Shreveport, La., Angeline Rudolph of Sterling Heights, Mich., Anna (Roy) Deboard-Johnson of Plymouth, Mich., Valerie Kuchur of Niles and Valentine DiCerto of Fresno, Calif.; and 14 nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his companion, Ilse Muller of Punta Gorda and by his LOTW fishing buddies.

Services were held at the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Punta Gorda.
