John Steven Randle, 60, of Wells Street, Dowagiac, passed away at his home on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, with his family by his side.

John was born on July 21, 1950, to Jake and Joan (Stewart) Randle in Dowagiac. John was one of five children in the Randle household.

After graduating from Dowagiac Union High School in 1968, he wed Evelyn F. Lucas at a ceremony in Dowagiac on Aug. 9, 1969.

In the early ’70s, John was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served his country in Vietnam. John was a sergeant at the time of his discharge.

After his time in the military John began working for SIMCO Gas as a gas meter reader and retired in 1999 as a manager.

After his retirement, John couldn’t sit idle so he took a job with the South Bend Housing Authority and retired for a second time from there.

Still having too much down time, John worked at the Cass County Medical Care Facility until 2006.

When he wasn’t working or spending time at home with his children and grandchildren, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially chopping wood.

John is preceded in death by his father.

John is survived by: his wife, Evelyn; mother, Joan Randle; daughter, Tammie (Edgar) Ubaldo of Cassopolis; their son, Cobby; son, Broderick “Brock” (Aretha) Randle of Dowagiac and his children, Bobby, Jenisis, Alex, Starr, Steven and Lucas; brothers, Lonnie (Patricia) Randle of Fountain, Colo., Ronald (Jennifer) Randle of Rapid City, S.D., and sisters Sandra Randle of Cassopolis and Deborah Crawley of Niles.

Funeral services to honor John’s life will be Friday, Oct. 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel with visitation beginning at 11:30.

Rodney Lucas will be officiating.
