Dear editor:

As an Independent voter in the 6th Congressional District of Michigan, I welcomed the opportunity for debate among candidates for the general election.

After watching and listening to several of the debates that have taken place over the past few weeks, and giving each of the contenders a fair chance, my choice has been decided: Congressman Fred Upton will receive my vote on Nov. 2. With a sound mind, I will watch as Mr. Upton receives not only mine and many other votes, but also the gavel to chair the energy and commerce committee. After having met him several times over the past few years, both he and his staff have been nothing but informative and helpful.

As a resident of Michigan, it has been difficult to see the past few years unfold economically. However, with a promise of tomorrow’s leadership and continued hard work from our representatives, positive changes lie ahead. I urge each constituent of the 6th District to vote for Congressman Fred Upton come Tuesday, Nov. 2.
