MARSHALL — The Niles football team improved to 2-0 Thursday night with a convincing 35-6 victory over the Division 4 state champion Marshall Redhawks.

The Vikings rolled to a 21-0 halftime advantage and never looked back.

Martell Miller carried the ball 24 times for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Vikings, while Brandon Partee, Prescott Smith and Ronnie Jones also scored.

Niles grabbed a 7-0 first quarter lead when Partee scampered in from 34-yards out and Dustin Wright added the kick.

The Vikings broke open the contest with a pair of second quarter scores to increase its lead.

Miller tallied from 14-yards out to make it 14-0 and Smith completed the first half scoring with a 36-yard run.

In the second half, Niles scored in each quarter, while the Redhawks averted the shutout with a touchdown in the third quarter.

The extra point attempt failed and Marshall found itself down 28-6 heading into the final 12 minutes of play.

Ronnie Jones had the touchdown run for the Vikings in the third quarter as he scored from 4-yards out.

Miller tallied his second touchdown of the evening to cap the scoring with a 36-yard run.

“They were not gassed at all,” Niles coach Dan Brawley said of his team in the second half. “They were ready to play. It was refreshing knowing just by the looks in their eyes they still had a lot left.”
