BUCHANAN – With the Lakeland Conference title already wrapped up the league match between visiting Cassopolis and host Buchanan on May 20 was a game played for pride and to fine tune their soccer skills for the upcoming district tournament.
The two teams played each other evenly through the game. Buchanan held a 11-10 shot advantage and each goalkeeper made seven stops but it was the Lady Bucks who came out the victor punching three goals past Ranger goalkeeper Molly Moroz for a 3-1 win.
Buchanan’s Amanda Wynn scored the first two goals for the Lady Bucks and had the assist on the team’s third goal of the night with a perfect pass to Morgan French for the third goal of the night.
Meagan Ruff scored the Rangers lone goal that cut the Buchanan lead in half after going up 2-0.
Wynn’s first goal came seven minutes into the contest as she beat Moroz and was able to tap in the ball for a 1-0 lead.
Wynn added to the lead in the second half, five and a half minutes in, on a pass from Racheal Bahr for a 2-0 lead.
It took less than two minutes from there for Cassopolis to break into the scorebook with Ruff’s goal coming at the 47th minute.
Morgan French gave the Lady Bucks the insurance goal in the 56th minute and Shelby Welbaum and the defense secured the win keeping the Rangers scoreless the rest of the way.
“We actually had more possession and more shots on goal, but Buchanan had a solid defense and used their speed up top,” Cassopolis coach Oli Olafsson said.
Buchanan improves to 7-7-4 overall and 5-1-3 in the league while the Rangers go to 5-6-0 and 3-6-0 in the Lakeland play.
