Burton (Buck) Cheney Sr., 87, of Niles, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 with his family by his side.
He was born on July 14, 1922 in Niles to the late L.D. and Cora (Wilson) Cheney.
Burton W. (Buck) Cheney Sr. married Lucille (Dickeson) Cheney on Dec. 7, 1940; she passed away in 1983. During their union there was born seven children: Bill Cheney, Becky Lou Cheney, both deceased, Julie Riggs, of South Bend, David Cheney, of Niles, Burton (Janet) Cheney Jr., of Niles, Sandy (Dale) Hempel, of Buchanan, Teresa (Jim) Bartosch, of South Bend.
Burton remarried on March 30, 1984 to Wilma (Reynolds) Cheney. Stepchildren include Jeff Featherstone deceased, Pam Sheets ,of South Bend, Greg (Jeannie) Featherstone, of Osceola; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Thompson, of Mathews, Ind.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Lyle Cheney, Leonard Cheney; three sisters, Maxine Creevey, Edna Hartline, Eva Adkins; and one grandchild, Brent Cheney.
Burton (Buck) Cheney Sr. worked a total of 25 years with Kawneer Co. After that closing in Niles he started his own business, Dandy Truck Covers, which he operated with his two sons, Burton Jr. and Bill Cheney, for 14 years. He served the Lord for 51 years and has gone on to his eternal reward.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 27 at 3 p.m. in Mission Hills Memorial Chapel with a time of visitation starting at 1 p.m. Pastor Earl Boarders will be officiating. The interment will follow the service at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
