Niles golf team finishes fifth at Coldwater Invitational

COLDWATER – The Niles golf team finished fifth at the Coldwater Invitational on Thursday.

Ann Arbor Pioneer won the tournament held at the Coldwater Golf Course with a team total of 318.

Battle Creek Lakeview finished second with a 319, while Jackson and Battle Creek Harper Creek tied for third with a 320.

Jackson was awarded third place based on the fifth-man tiebreaker.

Niles shot 326.

Alex Willnow of Adrian and Nolan Maezes of Pioneer shared medalist honors at 75.

Niles’ Chris Noble finished a shot back at 76. John Schrader, who finished at 79, also earned a medal.

Brett Phillips shot 84 for the Vikings, who also got an 87 from Cole Hensel and a 95 from Jared Langmeyer.

The Vikings will split their squad this weekend to compete in a pair of tournaments.

Part of the team will head north to compete in the two-day Traverse City Invitational, while another group will take part in the Big 16 Conference tournament on Saturday.
