A seven-run sixth inning propelled host Brandywine to a 12-6 non-conference victory over Mendon Monday afternoon.

The Bobcats (5-3) trailed 4-0 heading to the bottom half of the second inning.

Brandywine scored a run in the second and a run in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Hornets added two more runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 6-2 contest before the Bobcats tallied three times in the bottom half of the frame to make it a 6-5 contest.

Brandywine exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory.

Joe Godfrey picked up the victory in relief of Derek Nichols.

Buck Bourdon, who along with Brian Exner had three hits, doubled for the Bobcats’ lone extra base hit.

Exner also drove in three runs.

Cody Udell and Ralph Sater each had two hits for Brandywine.

“I was real happy with two things,” Brandywine coach David Sidenbender said. “One, the relief pitching of Joe Godfrey with 12 strikeouts and one walk in six-plus innings of relief, and two, the way we were able to keep fighting, getting better and better at-bats and coming back to win the game.

“We got down 6-2 and it would have been easy to for this inexperienced team to give up, but they didn’t,” he added.
