Ancilla splits final doubleheader before conference season

DONALDSON, Ind. – The Ancilla College softball team split a double header with Macomb Community College, winning the first game 8-0 in five innings and falling 7-4 in the second game.

The host Chargers (5-11) sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning of game one and netted eight runs in the inning.

Kayla Bauer’s grand slam was the big hit in the inning. Amber Edmundson picked up 2 RBI and Lindsay Duke and Alisha Davenport had one RBI each. Demi Schrader, of Niles, was 2-for- 3 at the plate. Edmundson went the distance in the circle for Ancilla allowing just four hits.

Macomb (12-6) scored seven unanswered runs in the first two innings on its way to a game two win.

Kristen Helmick’s two-run home run was the bulk of Ancilla’s scoring in their three run second inning. Schrader went 3-for-4, while Amanda Thomason was 2-for-4.

Ancilla begins its Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference season on Tuesday, March 30 at home against Lake Michigan College, beginning at 3 p.m.
