Edwardsburg wins Lakeland championship

COLOMA – The Edwardsburg volleyball team knocked off regular season champion Coloma 3-1 in the championship match of the Lakeland Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Eddies, who by winning the conference tournament earn a share of the overall league title with the Lady Comets.

Edwardsburg defeated cross-county rival Cassopolis in the first round 25-5, 25-17 and 25-18 before defeating Berrien Springs in the semifinals 25-15, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-20.
In the title match, the Lady Eddies topped Coloma 25-22, 25-20, 15-25 and 25-22.

Buchanan finished third in the league tournament after defeating Berrien Springs 25-19, 25-15 and 25-17.

In the opening round, the Lady Bucks knocked off rival Brandywine 25-12, 23-25, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-4.

In the semifinals, Buchanan was defeated by Coloma 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17.

In its loss to Buchanan, Kesley Prestly had 15 kills for the Lady Bobcats, while Morgan Smallwood and Jessy Cooper both finished with three.

Cooper had 14 assists and Kaley Jones 12 with Lauren Leonard contributing two aces and Jones one.

Brandywine finished the day with a win over Bridgman 25-16, 25-22. 19-25 and 25-9.
Prestly had 22 kills, while Cooper and Leonard both finished with four.

Jones and Cooper both had 16 assists with Cooper also contributing four aces and Prestly two.
The Lady Eddies will open up district play tonight at Lakeshore High School at 6 p.m. against the host Lady Lancers.

The Lady Bobcats will open up district play on Wednesday at Watervliet High School as they take on River Valley in the semifnals.

Wolverine Conference
The Dowagiac volleyball team went 1-1 in the Wolverine Conference Tournament on Saturday at Plainwell.

The Chieftains lost in their opening round match to South Haven 25-22 and 25-20.

Dowagiac did rebound to defeat Comstock 27-25, 17-25 and 15-7.

Dowagiac will face Buchanan tonight in the Class B District Tournament at Lakeshore. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Niles was defeated by Kalamazoo Central, Loy Norrix and Lakeshore.

The Lady Vikings finished 12th overall.

Niles will compete in the Class A district at Kalamazoo Central on Tuesday against Portage Central at 5 p.m.
