Sports roundup: Krush holding meeting Sunday

The Krush Volleyball Club will be holding a Parent and Player Information meeting this Sunday at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA.

The meeting will start at 2 p.m. and will cover the upcoming 2010 season including teams, coaches, cost, travel, and practice.

Turkey Twosome Youth Scholarship Tournament Nov. 28 at Timberlanes

The Turkey Twosome Youth Scholarship Tournament will be held Nov. 28 from 1-4 p.m. at A.A. Timberlanes.

Registration will begin at 12:15.

Cost if pre-registered before Nov. 21 is $15 per person or $30 for one youth and one adult. Those who do not pre-register will be charged $40.

Ancilla College wraps up season with 18-16 overall record

JACKSON – The Ancilla College volleyball season completed their 2009 campaign at Jackson Community College (18-16, 6-8 MCCAA).

The Lady Chargers dropped a straight set match to their Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference rival by a score of 25-18, 25-16, 25-23.

Lauren Krempec led Ancilla with seven kills, finishing the season with 261 kills, tops for all freshmen.

Sophomore Tamra Schmucker led the Lady Chargers with 268 kills during the year.

In the digs department, Sophomore Tristan Hunter and Krempec led the team against JCC with 11 digs each, finishing the season with 280 and 273 digs respectively.

For the season, sophomore Asia Patrick fell just one dig short of the 300 dig milestone in leading the Lady Chargers during the season with 299 digs.

Freshman Demi Schrader added 13 assists to her season-high total of 392 assists. Fellow freshman Monica Meuninck assisted on 271 kills during the year.

Ancilla finishes their season with a 5-33 overall record while finishing the MCCAA West with a record of 0-14.

16U and 12U softball team tryouts slated for Nov. 8 and Nov. 15

Tryouts for 16U and 12U teams will be held on Nov. 8 and the Nov. 15 from 3-5 p.m. at the Brandywine Elementary School.

Registration under way for annual Thanksgiving Day Run Nov. 26

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA and First Source Bank are currently taking registrations for the Thanksgiving Day Run, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 26.

Save money by registering today as entry fees for this event will go up on Nov. 2 and again on Race Day.

There will be a 10K & 5K Run, as well as a 5K walk and a 1-mile fun run.
