HARTFORD – The Dowagiac varsity soccer team ran its winning streak to three as it defeated host Hartford Monday evening 4-2.

The Chieftains led 2-1 at the half on goals by Hazen McMeeken and Adrian Martinez.
The pair also scored both goals in the second half for Dowagiac, which outshot the Indians 20-8.

McMeeken opened the scoring in the fourth minute, however, Hartford knotted the non-conference match with a goal in the 11th minute by Juan Perez.

Martinez made it 2-1 in favor of the Chieftains with a goal in the 23rd minute.

The Indians once again tied the match, this time on a goal by Valentin Cordos in the 55th minute.

It didn’t take long for Dowagiac to reclaim the lead as Martinez scored in the 56th minute to get the match-winner.

McMeeken added an insurance goal in the 64th minute.

“We played a much more physical game for 80 full minutes,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “We are coming together and still have 2 starters out. We hope to be healthy and ready to compete for districts.”
