LMC holding tryouts for soccer club Aug. 12-13

BENTON TOWNSHIP – The Lake Michigan College Soccer Club is hosting open tryouts on Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Napier Avenue Campus soccer field. Tryouts are open to all enrolled LMC students.

Players should bring a water bottle and appropriate attire and equipment, including shin guards and cleats. Interested candidates should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time for registration.

The LMC Soccer Club is an intramural team which competes year-round in indoor and outdoor seasons against other college soccer club teams. LMC’s schedule includes games against teams from nearby community colleges and travel to other colleges throughout Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. The team also participates in the Blizzard Blast tournament in Florida each year during the winter semester break.

16th Annual Behnke Memorial Aug. 22

The 16th Annual Behnke Memorial Golf Tournament will be Saturday, Aug. 22 at Spruce Ridge Golf Club.

The cost for the four-person scramble, at least one woman per team is $200 total, which includes: 18 holes of golf, food, beverages and prizes for all.

Included are four hole-in-one contests with a chance to win a flat screen TV, Big Bertha irons, two round trip air tickets or $5,000.

There will also be a putting contest, with the winner getting a nice prize and a chance to win $2,500.

A 50/50 drawing will take place, along with prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt.

Registration is 8:30 a.m. with a start at 9 a.m. sharp.

Patriot Day Golf Outing at Signal Point Club

NILES – The Signal Point Patriot Day Golf Outing is a benefit for the Folds Of Honor Foundation.

All proceeds go to the Folds Of Honor Foundation, which provides educational scholarships to families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty.

The event will be held Sept. 4.

Following lunch, golfers will tee off at 1 p.m. at the Signal Point Club, 1475 W. River Road in Niles.

The format is a four-person scramble. Entry fee is $280 per team. You can also get a foursome and a sponsor sign for $380 or you can sponsor a hole for $100.

‘Big’ Hole Scramble Aug. 23 at Spruce Ridge

The Dowagiac “Big” Hole Scramble will be held on Sunday, Aug. 23 at Spruce Ridge Golf Club.

The event will benefit both the boys and girls basketball programs at Dowagiac.

There will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $50 per person.

There will be cash and door prizes, a closest to the pin contest, a longest drive contest, $20 team skins, $20 mulligans, a hog roast and refreshments.
