Sports Briefs: Salvation Army benefit softball game Saturday

NILES – The Salvation Army is sponsoring a benefit softball game between the Bethel College women’s team and the Niles Community “All-Stars” on Saturday, July 25 at 1 p.m. at Plym Park.

The All-Stars will consist of community members, police officers and firefighters.

To attend, patrons will be “charged” at least one canned food donation, which will benefit the Salvation Army’s food pantry program.

The Salvation Army will also be handing out fixed up hot dogs at no charge.

MCSA Labor Day 5k run/5k Walk Sept. 7
MCSC Labor Day 5k Run / 5k Walk to be held on the grounds of Michiana Christian Service Camp in Niles on Monday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.

Cost is $12 if registered before Aug. 14 and $15 after that date.

Race T-shirt guaranteed if registered by Aug.14.

21st LMC Golf Outing scheduled for Aug. 17
BENTON TOWNSHIP – The 21st Annual Lake Michigan College Golf Outing will be held Monday, Aug. 17, at Orchard Hills Country Club in Buchanan. Openings are available for the best-ball event.

The entry fee for a foursome is $600 or $150 for individual entries and a portion of the entry fee is tax deductible.

Opportunities to highlight local businesses through sponsorships are available beginning at $200.

Along with golf, the outing includes lunch, door prizes, awards and a social hour with hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Proceeds from the golf outing benefit the LMC Athletics program.

Niles Football Golf Outing Saturday at Orchard
The Niles Football Golf Outing is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 at Orchard Hills Country Club.

Cost is $55 per person and includes greens fees, cart, beverages and fish fry following golf.

The event will begin with a shotgun start at 2 p.m.

Niles FC holding tryouts for teams on Saturday
NILES – The Niles F.C. still has openings in their fall girls’ soccer teams.

The club offers an exciting opportunity for area soccer players to be part of a competitive team that encourages teamwork, growth as a player and the opportunity to play during their school’s off season.

The last tryout is Saturday at Niles High School from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Niles F.C. also has openings for the spring season for boys ages 9-12 and in middle and high school. Openings are also available for spring girls ages 9-12.
