The Rev. Robert Earl Collom, 64, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at his home after an extended illness. He was born June 25, 1948 in Newport, Ark, the son of John Earl and Wanda O. (Spicer) Collom. He moved here in 1964 and was an active part of the Edwardsburg community.

Rev. Collom graduated from the general Baptist Church Seminary in Poplar Bluff, Mo. and became a Minister and Pastor for several churches in the Michiana area. While his work, for several years, was centered around transportation and distribution, his true passion was sharing the ‘ Love and Good News of Jesus Christ.’

Robert was married Aug. 26, 1967, in Kalamazoo to Peggy Ann Brooks. She survives with their children, Patricia Ann (Craig) Stanage and Bonnie O. (Brian) Bolin, both of Edwardsburg and Robert George (Chanda) Collom of Belvidere, N.J. He is aloso survived by his mother, Wanda O. Collom of Edwardsburg and four grandchildren, Lauren R. Collom, Zachary A. Stanage, Abel M. Stanage and Andrew D. Collom and a step-brother, Wayne Menard of Lexington, Mo.

Family who have preceded him in death, are his father, two brothers, DeWayneRay Collom in 1985 and Johnnie Eugene Collom in 2009.

Family and friends may gather on Friday, Jan, 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ontwa Baptist Church, 69946 Elkhart Rd., Edwardsburg.

The Service of Remembrance will be Saturday Jan. 5, 2013 at 10 a.m., at the church, where family and friends may gather for one hour before the service.  Officiating will be Robert George Collom, his son, and Pastor Mike Elsey of the Ontwa Baptist Church, with Pastor Roger Dixon and Pastor Richard Kiser, assisting. Interment will follow at the Edwardsburg Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, team: ”Cheers for a Cure.” Envelopes are available at the funeral home or at the Ontwa Baptist Church. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
