Man dies in weekend M-60 crash

A 33-year-old South Bend man is dead after a head-on collision Sunday afternoon on Michigan Highway 60 in Howard Township.

According to Michigan State Police, Jeremy Adams was traveling east on M-60 when a vehicle traveling west on M-60 crossed the centerline and collided with Adams’ vehicle at around 1:34 p.m. east of Pine Lake Street in Cass County.

The other vehicle was driven by Charles Barnes, 69, of Niles.

Adams was extracted from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in Barnes’ vehicle were his son, Charles Barnes, 38, and juvenile grandson, both of Edwardsburg. They were all treated at the scene and released.

The crash is under investigation. Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Police are asking a potential witness on a motorcycle that was in the area at the time of the crash to contact the Michigan State Police at 683-4411.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Howard Township Fire Department and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service.
