Home sweet home.

The Dowagiac golf team took advantage of hosting the Division 3 District Tournament at Hampshire Country Club by finishing second and qualifying for the regional next week.

Dowagiac shot 331 to grab the runner-up spot. The Chieftains finished six strokes behind district champion Schoolcraft (325). Rounding out the top six were Coloma (344), Paw Paw (362), South Haven (375), and Berrien Springs (377).

Dowagiac, paced by Jordan Haggeman’s 78, also received scores of 84 (Christian Hess), 84 (David Brogan), and 85 (Andrew Wild).

While other local teams Brandywine (389) and Buchanan (419) fell short of the team qualifications, each team will be represented at the regional round as Brandywine’s Alec DeJonge (80) and Chance Smith (84), along with Buchanan’s Blake Herwick, all move on as individuals.

Also advancing as individuals are Watervliet’s Chris LeBlang (90) and Parchment’s Charlie Eaton (95) and Lyon Bailey (96).

The Division III regional will be held Friday, May 30 at The Medalist Golf Course in Olivet.
