Cassopolis schools cautious after gun threat

Cassopolis Public Schools took extra precautions Monday morning after receiving information that a possible gun or guns could be brought to Ross Beatty High School today.

According to Cassopolis Supt. Tracy Hertsel, there have been no incidents so far.

“Five minutes before school let out Friday we got a call from administration that there was a rumor of possible gun or guns being brought to the school Monday,” he said. “We involved the (Cass County) Sheriff’s Department at that point and they did an in-depth investigation over the weekend and turned up nothing that would force us to cancel school or change anything we were doing today.”

Hertsel added that he sent an alert to all parents in the school district letting them know the situation and that the Sheriff’s Department would continue looking into the situation.

Attendance was affected according to Hertsel.

The Sheriff’s Department provided a larger presence this morning around Ross Beatty.
