Brandywine tennis headed to state finals

PAW PAW — For the second straight year, the Brandywine tennis team is headed to the state finals.

The Bobcats finished second to Otsego at the MHSAA Regional Tournament held at Paw Paw High School Thursday.

The Bulldogs won the regional championship with 27 points, while the Bobcats were second with 22 points. The host Redskins also qualified with 19 points.

The top two teams, plus any team scoring 18 or more points advances to the state finals, which will be held in Holland next Friday and Saturday.

Buchanan finished fifth with 10 points and Dowagiac seventh with two points.

Brandywine’s No. 3 and No. 4 doubles teams earned regional championships, while Chance Smith and Austin Balos were runners-up at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

Tyler Mott and Jordan Hunt defeated Jack Seelye and Adam Cole of Otsego 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

Chandler Plew and John Gamble defeated Otsego’s Cade Thiel and Isaac Clemens 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3 at No. 4 doubles.

Buchanan had a pair of runners-up with Alex Lindamood at No. 2 singles and Christian Orphanidis at No. 4 singles.
