Crash kills Niles motorcyclist

The driver of the motorcycle involved in a fatal crash Thursday evening in Oronoko Township has been identified as Chris Clubine, 55, of Niles.

Officer Rob Christner of the Berrien Springs Oronoko Police reported the single-vehicle mishap occurred at 5:26 p.m. Aug. 29 on East Shawnee Road, just west of Lauer Road.

The motorcycle was eastbound on Shawnee when the driver apparently locked up the brakes, then lost control of the bike.

He was thrown from the motorcycle.

Police said it was not clear at this point what caused the driver to have to lock up his brakes to either stop or slow so quickly.

The driver, who was wearing a helmet, died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

A single witness stated there was a red midsize car in front of the motorcycle which did not stop.

It was not known if this vehicle had anything to do or was involved with the crash in any way.

If you happened to have been in the area at that time and may have seen anything, please call the BSOPD at (269) 471-2813 because your information could be critical to them finding out what took place and caused this crash.
