ARS gallery offers hands-on learning

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — With the snow finally making its way to Michiana this week, plenty of people are likely looking for a way to beat the cabin fever. To the artistic folks at Anna Russo Sieber Arts & Culture, there’s no better cure for the winter blues than crafting a new skill.

Beginning mid-January, people can learn all sorts of new talents at the gallery, located at 147 Fifth St. in Benton Harbor.

 

A full list of classes are as follows:

Italian Culture Club — $210

5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 3 to April 13

This class is offered to returning intermediate students.

 

Conversational Italian — $210 + textbook

5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 2 to April 12

This is a basic class is designed for those wishing to learn to conversationally speak Italian.

 

Mosaic workshop — $75+ material costs

1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 20-21

Students will learn to create mosaic masterpieces in this two-day workshop.

 

Mosaic workshop — $65 + material costs

1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6

This one-day workshop will be offered on a Saturday so as to include those who can’t make it during the week.

 

Cultural ceramics — $85

5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays Jan. 19 to March 1

Students will research and create cultural ceramic pieces.

 

Photography

5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays Feb. 3 to March 2

Students will learn about black and white photography, timing and various shooting styles. Those participating are asked to bring a camera.

 

Wine education — $17 each or $80 for five

Starts Thursday, Feb. 5

A broad range of wines, pairings and learning wine language will be covered. The following four classes will be announced at the first class.
