Lillian Faye Covert, 97, of Niles, passed away at Westwoods of Niles on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015.

Lillian was born on May 17, 1918, to the late Grover Donald and Nellie (Farrington) Laudeman in Breman, Indiana. After graduating from Elkhart High School, Lillian began working as a Legal Secretary until she was married. On Nov. 26, 1938, Lillian wed the love of her life, Elza Covert, at a ceremony in Elkhart.

Though Lillian was a very reserved woman she was extremely loving and willing to help in any fashion possible. She was a gifted musician playing the violin for the Michigan City Symphony and in high school she played her violin under the direction of Fritz Kreisler at the World’s Fair in Chicago. She was a talented quilter and crafted many beautiful quilts and a member of the Dunes Quilting Club. Lillian also loved her time spent traveling with her family; she spent many summers in Curtis, Michigan with her son, Tom and his family, loved her train trip out west with her son, Larry, and at the age of 95 she took a 7 country tour of Europe with her daughter, Carole.

Lillian was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Michigan City for over 64 years until she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Niles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elza Woodrow Covert; and siblings; Grover Laudeman II, Avis Laudeman and Mary Stump.

Lillian is survived by her sons, Larry (Carolyn) Covert of New Carlisle, Indiana, Thomas (Margaret) Covert of Curtis, Michigan; daughter, Carole (Ronald) Beckman of Niles; grandchildren, Scott Beckman, Adam Covert, Brian Covert, Chris Covert, and Andrea Covert; 15 great grandchildren William, Elizabeth, Julia, Rachel, Elisabeth, Melody, Jonathan, Kodi, Anna, Rae, Austin, Connor, McKienzie, Rowen and Fletcher and fifteen great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made in Lillian’s name to the First Baptist Church in Niles and Hospice at Home.

The family would like to extend a deep thank you to the staff at Woodland Terrace, Westwoods of Niles and Hospice at Home for taking great care of Lillian.

Funeral services to honor Lillian’s life will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Jim Wing, officiating. An interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. (Michigan Time EST) at Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City, Indiana.
